Our founder’s story

It all started with a big dream in a small country.

Growing up near Athens, Greece, CEO and Co-Founder Alex Chatzieleftheriou thrived in games like chess and Warcraft II. Always forward-thinking, Alex was eager to apply his penchant for strategy games to problem-solving opportunities in the real world.Alex’s ‘aha moment’ came during his years as a management consultant, when he spent five years living in hotel rooms across 12 different cities. He loved seeing the world but missed feeling like he had a home.After teaming up with longtime friend and Co-founder Alexis Maragkos, the two sketched out the ideal apartment: accessible online, move-in-ready, easy-to-book, and one that gave people the confidence & peace of mind to rent, move, & live seamlessly. Blueground was born! From their first booking – which had the duo up all night assembling furniture – came word-of-mouth leads, a prominent local investor, and additional co-founders. Today, Blueground continues growing, and Alex envisions being in 50 major cities worldwide by 2025.
